Working From Home, Really?

Recently realised that Work From Home is a real possibility

As I hear it, In some organisations, people are working 12 – 14 hours a day, much more than they did earlier.

Real issue lies in the fact that 84% of the workforce in India is informal at work and only 16% truly understand formal processes. The current scenario is the best tool to shift the teams from former to latter as Work from home will be the new way of life.

Lockdown lift will not get everyone back to offices the next morning and we better be prepared to work from home for a few more months.

Key assistance comes from adoption of digital tools and Rapid digitalization of all tasks

WFH then..

Olden days work from home meant attending to mails, WhatsApp and calls sitting in your living room while the laptop was parked in the other room, switched on and logged in.

WFH now..

Today, Work from home is locking yourself in a room with your computer and all the gadgets from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with less frequent coffee/ lunch or fresh air breaks in the middle.

If this is the new WFH, it will definitely be a new normal for teams as the productivity will go up and companies will be more lenient with allowing WFH

Six tips to facilitate remote working culture at your organisation-

  1. Create a team that doesn’t need approval for small and big things from the immediate bosses. Independence brings in responsibility
  2. Embrace digital tools and services but keeping your data and conversations secure. @webex claims to keep your conversations secure (heard that in an interview form @Pankaj Agarwal from @cisco)
  3. This is the time to communicate and connect. Share your new skills, achievements day’s routine with your teammates. This creates encouragement
  4. For business or teams where WFH cannot yield much outcome (example sales force or production managers), promote them to attend meaningful trainings, sessions and webinars to keep the morale high so they come back all set to work more effectively (use this time!)
  5. Temporarily deploy team members from less active departments into divisions which need rapid improvement. It’s not easy, but not so hard either. Start with initiating the cross team chats and inclusions
  6. Be a transparent and honest organisation. How the organisation deals with situations now, is what your employees will remember you for.

And the employee will be remembered for being the team member they are being right now. This two way thought will help shape the company ‘s culture in the long run.

Lastly, communicate, communicate, communicate, stay connected as teams for more positivity, ambitions and goal setting and of course exhibit mutual care!
